Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatments: The Secret To Relieving Symptoms

September 10th, 2010 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

As a follow-up to my previous post regarding seborrheic dermatitis, I thought a discussion of your treatment options would be helpful. Even though there is no cure for seborrheic dermatitis, various treatments are available which will help control the signs and symptoms of this aggravating skin condition. Factors affecting your treatment will depend on how severe the condition is, the area affected, and your skin type.

Common Treatments For Seborrheic Dermatitis

Common treatments for this form of dermatitis include medicines such as steroid compounds and antifungal creams that will help reduce the inflammation and scaling of the skin. If you are also suffering from rosacea, you may be restricted to a safe antifungal cream because of the adverse facts of using topical steroids on a longer term basis. In the worst cases, the use of these topical steroids can lead to a condition known as steroid-induced rosacea. For those suffering from seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp, a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo may also be prescribed.

Once again, your best resource for information regarding seborrheic dermatitis will be your dermatologist. If you suspect that you are suffering from both rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis symptoms, a visit to your dermatologist may hold the secret to finding relief for your sensitive skin.

Seborrheic Dermatitis: Are You Also Suffering From This Skin Condition?

September 8th, 2010 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

As if it weren’t bad enough to have to deal with the symptoms of rosacea, a recent survey by the National Rosacea Society found that 25% of those suffering from rosacea also suffered from a condition called seborrheic dermatitis. Even though these two skin conditions are unrelated, a recent study of rosacea sufferers showed an alarming statistic with 26% of sufferers also experiencing facial seborrheic dermatitis and 28% showing that they were suffering from this same condition of the scalp.

You may wonder what this skin condition is? Well, it is defined as a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder which is not harmful or contagious. It is however uncomfortable and unsightly. It is common for this condition to have extended periods of inactivity followed by flare-ups.

What Are The Symptoms?

The symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis include both scaling and redness of the skin. It commonly looks like powdery or greasy scales on the facial area or other areas of the body. In either case, this skin condition is accompanied by a burning sensation. The most common areas that are affected are the creases around the nose, eyebrows, outside ear canal, and the forehead.

In many cases this form of dermatitis develops on the scalp, with the symptoms ranging from a mild case of dandruff to thicker scaly patches accompanied by an itching or burning sensation.

So, if you find that your rosacea condition is being aggravated by additional symptoms as discussed above, then you may very well be suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and should discuss this with your dermatologist.

The ZENMED® Skin Support System is an ideal starting ground for managing your condition appropriately and quickly. The keys to this treatment are:

1.The fusion of all-natural anti-inflammatory ingredients long known to decrease visible flushing and redness. These botanicals work to help constrict blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
2.The addition of all-natural bacteria fighting agents work immediately to help kill any causative bacteria on the surface of the skin to prevent the breakouts that often accompany rosacea.
3.The use of all-natural collagen boosters. Collagen networks within the skin are often weakened in people that suffer from Rosacea. These networks need to be maintained and strengthened and since they naturally weaken as you age, helping boost them is vital in preventing flare-ups and making the skin heal faster.

Does Heredity Play A Part In The Development of Rosacea?

May 2nd, 2010 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

Though there is no conclusive evidence that proves that rosacea is passed from generation to generation, survey results published by the National Rosacea Society certainly seems to suggest that it may play a part.

It was reported that almost 52% of survey respondents (600 person sample size) acknowledged that someone in their family had or presently have rosacea. More interesting was that of those who confirmed that they did have a relative with rosacea that most indicated that it was a person in the immediate family.

Based on the high percentage of sufferers with relatives and family members also experiencing rosacea symptoms, it would seem that there is a high probability that heredity has a part to play in a person’s development of rosacea. So, if you are concerned about developing this skin condition or are experiencing symptoms, you may need to look no further than your family members for confirmation!
