If you know anything about rosacea, you are aware that this skin condition is typified by flare-ups and remissions.  This fact has been confirmed by recent studies conducted by the National Rosacea Society of over 950 rosacea sufferers.

The interesting fact coming out of this study was that over 55% of the survey takers stated that they experienced a flare-up or increased symptoms at least once a month.  Of this group, 24% claimed that they were having flare-ups every few days; 15% once per week; and the remainder were once a month.

Another 25% of survey participants revealed that their flare-ups occurred only every few months.

How Long Do Flare-Ups Last?

This is the real question that most rosacea patients should be concerned with.  If you only incur one outbreak per month but it lasts for several weeks, you are far worse off than an individual who experiences a weekly flare-up for less than a day.  The statistics from the study were very revealing in this area.  The breakout is as follows:

33% - More than a day

21% - Less than a day

21% - More than a week

14% - Several weeks to over a month

11% - Other

How Intense Are The Rosacea Flare-Ups?

The intensity of a sufferer’s flare-up is another key point that must be considered when evaluating the type of treatment that is appropriate for you.  This study showed that over 50% classified their rosacea flare-ups as being moderate in intensity, while 12% believed them severe.  A total of 32% felt that their outbreaks were in the mild range.

So, how did the respondents control their rosacea symptoms?  83% stated that rosacea treatments combined with avoiding their rosacea triggers effectively controlled their symptoms.  Seeing that there is no cure for this skin disorder, it would certainly appear that a proactive approach to controlling symptoms is your best method to address your rosacea flare-ups.
