Rosacea Makeup Tips

Friday, November 21st, 2008 by admin

Acne rosacea skin care goes beyond just the medications and skin treatments that address the irritating symptoms of this skin condition.  The use of makeup can become a significant factor in whether or not your rosacea symptoms are exacerbated and skin irritation occurs.

New Rosacea-Friendly Makeup Products

Fortunately, the cosmetics industry is becoming more aware of the needs of rosacea sufferers.  They have started introducing skin care products with formulations which are based on natural and organic ingredients.  They can usually be found on the shelves of better cosmetics counters or online at sites such as The Skin Store.

We believe that a note of caution is in order about using makeup if you suffer from rosacea.  Most cosmetics on the market today contain a wide range of chemicals, fragrances and dyes. It is these artificial ingredients that tend to aggravate and irritate sensitive skin, like the epidermal effects of acne rosacea.  In addition, more chemicals are added as a preservative to increase the shelf life.  Remember — When buying rosacea makeup, natural is always better.

In fact, look specifically for all natural ingredients in your rosacea makeup products. Another factor is to make sure that the rosacea makeup is made for your specific skin type.

Mineral Makeup - All Natural Rosacea Solution

For those who choose to wear makeup, mineral makeup is an excellent choice for rosacea sufferers. This all natural makeup contains no artificial ingredients that can commonly lead to allergic reactions.  Dermatologists often recommended mineral makeup to women with sensitive skin, especially rosacea. This is so because of its intrinsic skin soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Helpful Tips for Starting a Rosacea Skin Care Program

Friday, November 21st, 2008 by admin

If you are already a sufferer, you know that careful rosacea skin care can be a worthwhile endeavor.  Special precautions in caring for your sensitive skin is almost a must to avoid exacerbations and flareups.

So, here are some simple, yet effective, guidelines for caring for your skin and make living with this skin condition just a little easier:

Give Your Face a “Short” Break — After gently cleaning and blotting your face dry with a soft towel, give your skin a few minutes to return to its normal condition before applying any topical medications. In turn, allow the medicine or creme to dry for 5-10 minutes before attempting to apply any foundation or make-up.

Be Gentle to Your Skin — Be sure to avoid any of the following aggravating cleansing practices: rough or scratchy washcloths, loofahs, wash brushes, sponges, and hot water baths or showers.

Try Not to Irritate Your Eyelids — If you are suffering from ocular rosacea, be extremely careful when cleaning or applying medicated ointments or cremes on your eyelids. Follow your physicians’ instructions for eyelid scrubbing or applying rosacea medications.

Don’t Use a Traditional Razor — a dull razor blade can almost certainly cause irritation on your sensitive facial skin. Try using a quality electric razor for a smooth and close shave without the risk of inflaming your rosacea. Also, try to avoid using shaving lotions that contain high levels of alcohol - they will burn or sting your newly shaven skin.

Be Very Selective When Using Cosmetics — When choosing cosmetics, your best bet is to stick with high quality products from a better known manufacturer. They tend to contain more natural ingredients and prove to be less irritating. The use of mineral makeup makes perfect sense for a rosacea suffer.  Sheer Cover has an excellent product is also highly recommended and rarely irritates rosacea inflicted facial skin.

These are a few tips to integrate into your rosacea skin care program, but remember, common sense also plays a big part in protecting your sensitive skin.  If you think a product might irritate or inflame your skin, check the ingredients and proceed cautiously be trying the product on an inconspicuous “test” patch of skin.

Using an Acne Rosacea Daily Cleanser

Friday, November 21st, 2008 by admin

As part of your skin care program, using an acne rosacea daily cleanser can be an effective step in controlling flare-ups.   Because rosacea is often aggravated by the mis-use or over-use of cosmetics containing skin irritating ingredients, a daily cleanser designed specifically for sensitive skin should be used exclusively.

Your Rosacea Skin Care Program

Ensuring that your skin care routine is compatible with your rosacea should be the first step in developing a new rosacea skin regimen.  Use of makeups, cleansers, or moisturizers that irritate your already sensitive skin should be halted immediately.  It takes a gentle skin care routine to aid in the control of your rosacea.

When cleaning your face, use a mild and non-abrasive cleanser, then rinse your face with warm water.  Very importantly, gently blot your face dry with a soft cotton towel.  Do NOT use a rough wash cloth for cleaning your face.  This will only irritate the skin further.

A Daily Cleanser Made With Rosacea Sufferers in Mind

Rosacea Skin Treatments Start With a Good Facial Cleansing

Friday, November 21st, 2008 by admin

While most rosacea sufferers a keenly interested in the latest treatment for acne rosacea, your rosacea skin treatments need to start with a more basic task - appropriate cleansing of the face.  One of the key concerns in facial cleansing is to avoid irritating your already sensitive skin.   So, if you are presently using any type of rosacea skin cleanser that burns, stings, or irritates your face, it would be prudent to seek out another product made specifically for sensitive skin.

Here are a few helpful tips to consider when cleansing your face:

  • When washing your face, use lukewarm water, not hot or cold, because the extreme temperatures can actually cause a flushing effect.
  • Use your fingertips instead of a sponge or wash cloth. It avoids abrasion and further irritation of your skin.
  • Blot your face dry with a thick, fluffy towel. Do not pull, tug, or rub your face with a towel when drying.
  • Be aware of your particular sensitivities to medications or rosacea skin treatments. Applying any creams or lotions immediately after cleansing your face can actually irritate your skin.

Wait to Apply Creams or Lotions

It is quite common for rosacea patients to experience a burning or stinging of the skin if they apply skin treatments too soon after cleansing their face.  So, it is advised that you wait at least 30 minutes after cleansing to avoid this effect.  You can experiment with this time interval by shortening the waiting period by 5-minute increments until you note a sensitivity with your skin.

Another practice that can save you from irritation is to wait an additonal 5-10 minutes after applying your topical rosacea treatment before you add any sunscreen or makeup products.

Know the Ingredients of Your Rosacea Skin Treatments and Cleansers

A thorough understanding of the ingredients of your rosacea treatments and facial cleansers can help you avoid products that may cause more damage than good.   You will find that awareness of certain ingredients in your skin care products that are known for skin irritation in sensitive skin can help avoid the pain of an irritated face.    Men should be particularly alert to any shave creams or after shave lotions that can cause stinging or burning.

Men should also consider using an electric razor rather than a standard “stick” razor.  The scraping of the blade can often cause facial irritation if the blade is not extremely sharp.

So, before applying your rosacea skin treatments to your sensitive face, it is always an excellent practice to perform a thorough cleansing of your facial skin.  Be gentle and avoid scrubbing at all costs.  Try using a gentle facial cleanser, like ZENMED® Gentle Cleansing Cream that is made specifically for sensitive skin and uses a number of natural ingredients.   A formulation using botanicals and herbs is far less likely to cause any kind of reaction to already sensitive skin.
