Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatments: The Secret To Relieving Symptoms
Friday, September 10th, 2010 by adminAs a follow-up to my previous post regarding seborrheic dermatitis, I thought a discussion of your treatment options would be helpful. Even though there is no cure for seborrheic dermatitis, various treatments are available which will help control the signs and symptoms of this aggravating skin condition. Factors affecting your treatment will depend on how severe the condition is, the area affected, and your skin type.
Common Treatments For Seborrheic Dermatitis
Common treatments for this form of dermatitis include medicines such as steroid compounds and antifungal creams that will help reduce the inflammation and scaling of the skin. If you are also suffering from rosacea, you may be restricted to a safe antifungal cream because of the adverse facts of using topical steroids on a longer term basis. In the worst cases, the use of these topical steroids can lead to a condition known as steroid-induced rosacea. For those suffering from seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp, a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo may also be prescribed.
Once again, your best resource for information regarding seborrheic dermatitis will be your dermatologist. If you suspect that you are suffering from both rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis symptoms, a visit to your dermatologist may hold the secret to finding relief for your sensitive skin.

Seborrheic Dermatitis: Are You Also Suffering From This Skin Condition?
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 by adminAs if it weren’t bad enough to have to deal with the symptoms of rosacea, a recent survey by the National Rosacea Society found that 25% of those suffering from rosacea also suffered from a condition called seborrheic dermatitis. Even though these two skin conditions are unrelated, a recent study of rosacea sufferers showed an alarming statistic with 26% of sufferers also experiencing facial seborrheic dermatitis and 28% showing that they were suffering from this same condition of the scalp.
You may wonder what this skin condition is? Well, it is defined as a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder which is not harmful or contagious. It is however uncomfortable and unsightly. It is common for this condition to have extended periods of inactivity followed by flare-ups.
What Are The Symptoms?
The symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis include both scaling and redness of the skin. It commonly looks like powdery or greasy scales on the facial area or other areas of the body. In either case, this skin condition is accompanied by a burning sensation. The most common areas that are affected are the creases around the nose, eyebrows, outside ear canal, and the forehead.
In many cases this form of dermatitis develops on the scalp, with the symptoms ranging from a mild case of dandruff to thicker scaly patches accompanied by an itching or burning sensation.
So, if you find that your rosacea condition is being aggravated by additional symptoms as discussed above, then you may very well be suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and should discuss this with your dermatologist.
