Does Rosacea Disappear After Menopause?

September 1st, 2009 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

The fact of the matter is that as women experience hot flashes during menopause, they often trigger flare-ups in their rosacea.  However, these triggers aren’t necessarily the underlying cause of this skin disorder. But once the hot flashes diminish or subside altogether, the rosacea symptoms may still continue and result in an exacerbation of your particular physical reactions to the skin disease.

As you may already know, rosacea is a long-term skin disorder where there is no cure at this time.  However, it can be effectively controlled through the use of medical treatments and avoidance of environmental and lifestyle factors.

If you find that your hot flashes are a particularly difficult rosacea trigger, the management of this disorder may be more predictable once they stop.  This is contingent, however, upon maintaining your rosacea therapy and monitoring of your triggers.

Rosacea Product Reviews - A New Twist

July 22nd, 2009 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

We have just found a new website, www.rosaceatreatmentfacts.com,  that provides rosacea product reviews that are a bit different from the usual sales “hype” that passes these days for an honest product evaluation.  The site’s consumer reports provide all the details about the most popular treatments for rosacea and provide feedback from actual rosacea sufferers — some comments are good and some are not so good (how refreshing!).

They do provide a recommendation for the top three over-the-counter rosacea treatment systems, but the decision is all yours!  You can select from all-natural rosacea treatments to those with a combination of artificial and natural ingredients.  As you probably are aware if you read this blog regularly, there is no cure-all for rosacea and each sufferer can respond slightly differently to various rosacea products.  What we are saying is, that regardless of how promising the treatment, the results can differ from person-to-person due to variability in symptoms and skin type.

So, why not take a peak at this new website, www.rosaceatreatmentfacts.com, and see if you don’t agree that they provide a better approach for helping rosacea sufferers make a decision on the various rosacea treatments available on today’s market.

Rosacea Symptoms: Summer Is A Time For Caution

June 5th, 2009 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

With summer almost upon us, most individuals are thinking about summer activities and fun in the sun.  But recent surveys by the National Rosacea Society indicate that many rosacea sufferers believe the summer season is one to be wary of.   With almost 85% of respondents stating that their rosacea symptoms are affected by the changing of the seasons, it is a time of caution and awareness for those diagnosed with rosacea.

Surprisingly, about 50% of those taking the survey thought that there symptoms were at their worst during the summer months.  An almost equal amount said that they make more lifestyle changes to control flare-ups in the summer than any other time of the year.

The problem being that sun exposure and summer heat are two of the most common rosacea triggers.  So, rosacea patients need to be aware of this high risk time of the year and avoid too much outdoor time and should use sunscreen products.  But don’t be fooled by a cloudy summer day - the heat and humidity can still lead to exacerbations in this skin condition.

What seemed to be a common factor in this survey was that many individuals were adversely affected by cold weather as well.  The study showed that 36% of respondents and 46% of those living in the northern states found their rosacea symptoms were at their worst during the winter months.  The wind and biting cold can be especially hard on already sensitive skin.

It would appear that the two most extreme seasons wreak the most havoc on many individual’s rosacea symptoms.  The good news was that almost 87% claimed that a combination of skin treatments and lifestyle changes helped reduce flare-ups and their overall symptoms.

Is It Rosacia, Roscea or Rosacea?

June 4th, 2009 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

Not surprisingly, the skin affliction called “rosacea” is is at the top of the list for incorrectly spelled skin afflictions in the field of medicine.  It is incorrectly called rosacae, roseca, roseaca, rosacia and a host of other names, but the correct spelling of this socially disruptive skin disorder is r-o-s-a-c-e-a.

You will also hear this skin affliction called acne rosacea because its symptoms (i.e. pimples, pustules, whiteheads) closely resembling the widespread skin affliction called Acne Vulgaris, which translated is ‘common acne.’  However rosacia is something totally different .  This skin disorder primarily attacks the facial skin and is characterized by times of skin aggravation followed by a period of remission.  A primary difference from acne is that rosacea generally begins after the age of 30 and can be “caught” by men and women well into their late 40’s.

Most Popular Misspellings of The Term Rosacea

Our studies have shown that an amazing 10% of the searches performed on leading search engines by men and women searching for more information about Rosacea are misspelled versions of the exact medical name.  Compiling a list of the highest incident mis-spellings, the search engines have reported the following terms being entered:  rosacia, rosecea, roseacea, roscea, roseaca.

These inaccurate spellings are not the exception.  In fact, they are entered into the largest search engine between 325 times for the highest incident of mis-spelled terms (rosacia) down to 33 times for the lowest (rosacae) on an average day.   Even as you might expect that the big search engines don’t encourage misspellings, you will find a number of pages utilizing these misspelled terms to try to support the men and women with rosacea who just can’t get the spelling quite right.

Dealing With Rosacea

Despite how you spell out “Rosacea”, the list of symptoms are not consistent from person to person.  Even though each man or woman suffering with this skin disease can have slightly different symptoms and various degrees of severity, the disease can quite often be diagnosed easily by an experienced dermatologist.  The leading symptoms can be identified as a reddening of the cheeks, chin, nose or forehead.  The good news is that the symptoms are transient and periods of remission generally follow exacerbations .

The truth is that there is no known solution for this skin disease.  However, with appropriate treatment and changes to certain habits, this disease can effectively be controlled.   So, whether we spell it rosacia, roscea, or roseca, the symptoms and social effects will be the same.
