Will Your Rosacea Treatment Be Effective Forever?

This question is a common concern of many rosacea sufferers whose rosacea treatment may or may not have an expiration date on the tube. Whether you are using an over-the-counter rosacea cream product or a prescription from your doctor, be aware of the possibility that your present medication may lose some its effectiveness over the long term.

The below Q & A provides a little more insight into this popular question:

Q. How long is a topical medication effective?

A. There is usually an expiration date on the tube label or on the prescription label affixed to the tube or packaging. However, if you feel your medication is not working, it’s time to consult your doctor. Topical medications are usually prescribed for use once or twice a day — every day — not sporadically. In a survey of more than 1,000 rosacea patients, 74 percent said their condition worsened if they did not use medication as prescribed. Moreover, of those complying with medical therapy as prescribed, nearly 70 percent said their condition had improved.

As you can see, applying your rosacea cream as directed is critical to your skin care treatment plan. Consistent application of your medication will help ensure that the product will work as effectively as possible.
