Incidence Of Rosacea Symptoms Increase Dramatically

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 by admin

The results of recent studies have revealed that the incidence of rosacea is on the rise. The National Rosacea Society is now estimating that over 16 million Americans are suffering from the symptoms and effects of rosacea, with millions more being in temporary remission. While these statistics are shocking in themselves, they most likely underestimate the true number of rosacea sufferers.

Even with the rosacea treatments and proper skin care having helped millions of Americans with their symptoms, the increase in the aging population has resulted in an increase of this chronic skin condition over the past 10 years. Keep in mind that rosacea can occur at any age, but it is most prevalent for those reaching middle age. So, what we are most likely seeing is the massive Baby Boom generation starting to affect the statistics. And if you are a fair skinned individual, your incident rate will be even higher than the general population.

Previous estimates by the National Rosacea Society had put the number of rosacea sufferers in the U. S. at 14 million people.

Rosacea Symptoms: Summer Is A Time For Caution

Friday, June 5th, 2009 by admin

With summer almost upon us, most individuals are thinking about summer activities and fun in the sun.  But recent surveys by the National Rosacea Society indicate that many rosacea sufferers believe the summer season is one to be wary of.   With almost 85% of respondents stating that their rosacea symptoms are affected by the changing of the seasons, it is a time of caution and awareness for those diagnosed with rosacea.

Surprisingly, about 50% of those taking the survey thought that there symptoms were at their worst during the summer months.  An almost equal amount said that they make more lifestyle changes to control flare-ups in the summer than any other time of the year.

The problem being that sun exposure and summer heat are two of the most common rosacea triggers.  So, rosacea patients need to be aware of this high risk time of the year and avoid too much outdoor time and should use sunscreen products.  But don’t be fooled by a cloudy summer day - the heat and humidity can still lead to exacerbations in this skin condition.

What seemed to be a common factor in this survey was that many individuals were adversely affected by cold weather as well.  The study showed that 36% of respondents and 46% of those living in the northern states found their rosacea symptoms were at their worst during the winter months.  The wind and biting cold can be especially hard on already sensitive skin.

It would appear that the two most extreme seasons wreak the most havoc on many individual’s rosacea symptoms.  The good news was that almost 87% claimed that a combination of skin treatments and lifestyle changes helped reduce flare-ups and their overall symptoms.

Rosacea Makeup Tips

Acne rosacea skin care goes beyond just the medications and skin treatments that address the irritating symptoms of this skin condition.  The use of makeup can become a significant factor in whether or not your rosacea symptoms are exacerbated and skin irritation occurs.

New Rosacea-Friendly Makeup Products

Fortunately, the cosmetics industry is becoming more aware of the needs of rosacea sufferers.  They have started introducing skin care products with formulations which are based on natural and organic ingredients.  They can usually be found on the shelves of better cosmetics counters or online at sites such as The Skin Store.

We believe that a note of caution is in order about using makeup if you suffer from rosacea.  Most cosmetics on the market today contain a wide range of chemicals, fragrances and dyes. It is these artificial ingredients that tend to aggravate and irritate sensitive skin, like the epidermal effects of acne rosacea.  In addition, more chemicals are added as a preservative to increase the shelf life.  Remember — When buying rosacea makeup, natural is always better.

In fact, look specifically for all natural ingredients in your rosacea makeup products. Another factor is to make sure that the rosacea makeup is made for your specific skin type.

Mineral Makeup - All Natural Rosacea Solution

For those who choose to wear makeup, mineral makeup is an excellent choice for rosacea sufferers. This all natural makeup contains no artificial ingredients that can commonly lead to allergic reactions.  Dermatologists often recommended mineral makeup to women with sensitive skin, especially rosacea. This is so because of its intrinsic skin soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.
