Rosacea Skin Reactions - Burning,
Stinging and Itching Skin
Some of the most frequently observed rosacea
symptoms are a burning, stinging or itching of the affected
skin. The effects of rosacea on facial appearance are well
known, but the majority of patients also experience physical
discomfort. A recent survey of 605 rosacea patients by the
National Rosacea Society focused on the level of discomfort and
pain associated with this skin disorder.
These are the findings of this revealing survey:
- A whopping 93 percent of the rosacea sufferers said
they experienced at least some physical discomfort due to
their rosacea. Of these people, the most common complaints
were burning (72%) itching (61%), stinging (52%) and
swelling (41%).
- 40% of the participants reported some level of
tenderness, while 36% said they experienced tightness in
their skin. 31% had experienced tingling, and 24% a
prickling sensation.
- Some level of physical discomfort was experienced most
often in the facial regions. This is where rosacea symptoms
are most commonly found - cheeks (80%), nose (53%), eyes
(48%), chin (40%) and forehead (36%). One surprising fact
was that a significant number of rosacea patients reported
some level of discomfort in areas beyond the central face,
including the ears (18%), scalp (20%), neck (16%) and
behind the ears (11%).
- 70% of participant said the discomfort occurred at the
same time as the physical signs of rosacea, and an
additional 2% thought there was some correlation between
the two. The most important thing to consider was that 84%
reported that the discomfort associated with their rosacea
symptoms were relieved through medical or natural rosacea
treatments and cures.
